Job purpose

Reporting to the Head of Supply Chain/Operations APAC, the International Logistics Specialist will be responsible for advising the business of all import/export restrictions, tariff systems, insurance requirements, quotas and other customs-related matters. This person will provide subject matter expertise in import/export documentation, ensuring clear and appropriate processes for the team to work with our freight agents and 3PL’s to ensure compliance and smooth movement of goods from loading point till final location. The scope of this role includes both the initial scoping/investigating/set up of any new business opportunities involving international freight movement, as well as the coordination of all stock movements and transactions for any international freight operations on an on-going basis.

Given the size of the Australian team, support with Supply Chain & Fulfilment activities might be required from time to time.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as subject matter expert for International Freight and Logistics.
  • Investigate applicable legislation and regulations, standards and best practices relevant to freight and distribution in various countries in the APAC region.
  • Provide advice in relation to all import/export restrictions, tariff system, insurance requirements, quotas, and other restrictions and customs-related matters for all new business opportunities.
  • Review and monitor freight rates ensuring we are getting competitive rates and liaise with forwarding agents regarding rates and schedules.
  • Organise and track all freight shipments from origin through to delivery to final location while monitoring ETA’s where required and keeping all relevant stakeholders informed of progress.
  • Collect, check and process all forwarding related documentation and ensure all local authorities, ports, freight forwarders receive the relevant and accurate documentation in a timely manner.
  • Manage customs and compliance for export/import, handling and transport of goods with a specific focus in APAC region.
  • End-to-end reporting & administration, including A to Z management of POs, transfers and documentations in Business Central (ERP) as well as approval, reconciliation and coding of all related 3PL invoices.
  • Liaise effectively with all relevant domestic and international vendors as well as internal stakeholders, working with them to build capability, efficiency and reliability and to facilitate positive relationships and ensure best practice is clear and adhered to.
  • Analysis of ongoing costs & performance against budget.
  • Review current procedures in place, identify any process improvement opportunities and work on continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities to mitigate costs, do things more efficiently and anticipate any issues that may arise in the future, communicating these to the relevant stakeholders and working to implement them.
  • Work very closely with Supply Chain & Fulfilment Teams and act as back up when a team member is absent or when required due to business need.

Person Specification

  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in International Freight and International Shipping, ideally in APAC region
  • Minimum 1-2 years experience managing customs and compliance for export/import for food products as well as lodging food application with Department of Agriculture
  • Experience working with ERP systems is critical (Navision/Business Central/SAP etc.). Microsoft Business Central preferred but not essential
  • Experience in domestic freight, distribution and logistics will be highly regarded
